Geevor Tin Mine is the western visitor gateway centre for the Cornish Mining World Heritage Site. The tin and copper mines of Cornwall shaped your world!
We are located in the village of Pendeen on the B3306 road between St. Ives and Lands End and parking is FREE! It was the last mine to work the world famous St. Just Mining District finally closing in 1990. Until then tin and copper was won for centuries in workings that eventually stretched far out under the sea. Set in dramatic coastal scenery, Geevor is now the largest complete mining site in Britain where visitors can follow the story of the mining and processing of tin.
In the Hard Rock Museum there is a film of Geevor when it was a working mine, interactives, a 'stope', a fascinating mineral gallery and a unique collection of mining photographs, artefacts and memorabilia.
The surface buildings contain magnificent machinery such as the winders and compressors. Visit the Miners' Dry left almost as it was when the last shift came to surface in 1990. The walk through the mill enables visitors to see where the ore was processed to produce the precious tin concentrate that Geevor sold. The underground tour takes visitors into the fascinating19th Century Wheal Mexico mine, which was re–discovered in 1995. In 2011 more of the mine was made accessible to vistors.
There is free entry to the Mine Shop that stocks a huge variety of Cornish items, and the Count House cafe that serves delicious home-cooked food, including our world-famous pasties! Relax and enjoy the fantastic coastal scenery. Take the nature trail and discover the array of wildlife - and spectacular views!
