The UK’s only China Clay heritage centre set within 26 acres of woodland walks and amongst the preserved remains of two former Victorian Clay works you will discover the fascinating story of Cornwall’s billion pound China Clay industry and find out about the lives of the people who lived and worked in the shadows of the ‘white pyramids’ as well as how China Clay has shaped the world we live in today. There are ancient buildings to explore, nature trails to follow as well as a vast collection of industry tools and artefacts, vintage commercial vehicles and Cornwall’s largest working waterwheel. The story is brought up to date at the peak of the site where you will discover a spectacular view of a modern working clay pit with monstrous machines in action and if you are lucky you may get to see blasting in the pit!!

There is also an interactive discovery centre with displays and exhibitions.  Here you can test your understanding of local dialects, try your strength against the village tug-o-war team and meet a Victorian kettle boy..
There is something for everyone of all ages, dogs are welcome and children can have fun on the adventure challenge trail through the woods or play in the play area. There is a well stocked shop selling a range of gifts including local pottery, jewellery, local interest and mining books and much more. While the atmospheric café set within the remains of a ‘clay dry’ has an interesting menu featuring local food and drink and is an ideal place to meet for lunch or a delicious cream tea before you leave.
